To BMI or not to BMI

Happy New Year!

1. resolution #1- lose 10 pounds so your BMI can be within normal range

Or should you? Are you fit? Do you eat healthy? Do you work out? Are your lab values for cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, etc, where they should be?

A new study from the CDC calls into question the benefits of longevity from using BMI to measure health. It turns out that a slightly higher BMI may offer an advantage.

Maybe it’s time for a more comprehensive health measure that looks at cardiovascular fitness, stress level, smoking status, diet, flexibility, sleep habits and fat distribution, rather than just numbers on a scale?
